Center for the Study of Democracy (CSD)

The Center for the Study of Democracy (CSD) is an interdisciplinary European public policy institute fostering the reform process in Europe through research excellence and policy advocacy. CSD is a non-partisan, independent organisation with a regional focus on Central and Eastern Europe and Western Balkan countries. It is widely known in Europe and internationally for its work in a number of areas, notably: good governance and anti-corruption; civil society development; social inclusion of vulnerable groups; human rights protection; equality and non-discrimination; justice; disinformation; (de)radicalisation; organised and conventional crime; informal economy; and energy governance/democracy.
CSD possesses a unique mix of expertise on sociology, political science, economics, comparative legal systems, criminology, policy monitoring and evaluation. The team is well-versed in both conceptual and empirical research, including intersectional approaches. CSD’s experts have hands-on experience in designing innovative policy support tools and methodologies and formulating policy recommendations. The team’s crosscutting competences enable the delivery of complex projects requiring process and substantive knowledge on EU level.
