Health Citizens European Institute

The Health Citizens Institute (HC) is a non-profit organization based in Portugal, whose main goal is to empower people through the development of programmes that improve knowledge about health and engage citizens in health promotion. The institute focuses on promoting the involvement of citizens in the scientific process by implementing the Citizen Science concept to its research and projects, on narrowing the gap between knowledge and the mainstream implementation of science through the support and development of policy recommendations, and on developing ethics and project security assessments. In addition, it develops research in the areas of Public Health and Environmental Health in connection to Climate Change, and Mental Health and Neurosciences. Simultaneously, the HC teams develop other activities, more focused on education, such as online campaigns, through newsletters and social media, that target communities, as well as training programmes, and formal and non-formal educational projects, within the scope of higher and non-higher education.
